The 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Gombe State Khamisu Mailantarki has resigned from the party.
Mailantarki lost the election having come third behind in the last governorship election where incumbent governor Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the poll and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Muhammed Barde came second.
However, on Wednesday evening, Mailantarki dumped his party after sending resignation letter to his ward chairman at Herwana ward.
He noted in the letter that his resignation takes effect from today, Wednesday thanking the party for the opportunity it gave him for his political ambition.
“I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party. This will be effective from Wednesday 10th July, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.
“I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as other who saw me through my entire journey in 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP.”, he said in the letter.
However, he did not reveal the new political party he would join neither but said NNPP had given him a chance that prepared him well for the challenges ahead .
