An explosion has rocked the Buni Yadi market in Gujba, Yobe State, with initial reports suggesting it was caused by a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
According to report, a local resident named Ali Hassan reported that the explosion occurred at approximately 12:30 pm on Friday, resulting in injuries to at least one person, a young girl.
The identity of the injured girl and her current medical condition remain unknown at this time.
The spokesman of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammad Shehu also confirmed the incident, saying another IED planted in the market was discovered and successfully defused by the Army.
He further explained the only victim of the explosion, is currently receiving treatment at one of the health facilities in Buni Yadi.
Authorities have clarified that the incident involved a planted IED, contradicting initial speculation about a potential suicide bombing.
Buni Yadi, situated approximately 54 kilometers from Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, was previously a stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents and suffered significant impacts during the two-year period of insurgent control in the area.
