Fire broke out on Friday at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba.
The blaze, which started on Friday morning has damaged a two-storey building, specifically one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5, located in Block 21—a three-storey structure comprising 16 two-bedroom flats.
Initial investigations by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge in the children’s room.
The resulting blaze completely destroyed the room and caused significant property damage, estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that the quick response from LASEMA’s Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was crucial in containing and extinguishing the fire before it could spread further.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly.
“Fortunately there was no loss of life and injuries sustained in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.
He also mentioned that residents were educated on the safe use of electrical appliances following the incident.
As of 5 a.m., emergency personnel were still on the scene, ensuring the situation was fully under control.
