The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
As of July 2024, corps members will receive a monthly stipend of N77,000, a major boost from the previous N33,000.
This increment is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and aims to improve the overall welfare of corps members. The decision was announced in a letter dated September 25, 2024, signed by Mr. Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
According to Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had previously advocated for a robust welfare package for corps members during a visit to the Chairman. The NYSC Boss has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, optimistic that this increase will not only provide financial relief but also motivate corps members to serve the nation with renewed enthusiasm.
