Popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has denied allegations of bribery leveled against him by social media influencer Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan.
Thediscovererng.com reports that the accusations emerged after VeryDarkMan shared a viral audio clip in which Bobrisky allegedly stated that he paid N15 million to some unnamed officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have money laundering charges against him dropped.
Following the viral audio, the EFCC responded swiftly. The commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had ordered an immediate investigation into the bribery allegations.
However, Bobrisky took to Instagram on Wednesday to deny the claims, describing the viral audio as fake. The controversial influencer asserted that he did not bribe any EFCC officials and that he fully served his jail term for the charges brought against him.
“My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet claiming I paid N15 million to the EFCC and that I was never imprisoned. This is a very big lie. I served my full jail term and came out. Disregard any false information,” Bobrisky wrote in his post
.
He further urged the public to dismiss the audio as misleading, emphasizing that he never participated in any illicit activity to evade justice and that he completed his sentence as required by law.
Many are now awaiting further details to emerge from the probe in the days ahead.
