Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulƙadir Mohammed, has signed an Executive Order to establish a standardized system of measurement (mudu) for grain sales, ensuring consistency and uniformity in weight measurements throughout the state.
According to investigations, the new executive order makes it illegal to use any measurement scale with a capacity below or above the government-approved standard.
Governor Bala has directed relevant authorities to enforce the new measurement standard, instructing them to arrest and prosecute any trader found tampering with or deviating from the approved unified “mudu” measurement scale in Bauchi State
Speaking while enshrining the Law at the Council Chamber of the Government House, ex-Sen Bala Muhammad who us now the sitting governor expressed dismay over the habit of some traders who use different sizes of mudu but charge the same price for people, describing it as unacceptable.
He said, “It is a leadership responsibility to ensure the accuracy of measurement, especially on grains as encouraged by the religion is strictly adhered to.
“The new unified standard Mudu will be manufactured and distributed to all markets across the state in collaboration between the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as the Council of Ulamas.”
Furthermore, an Executive Order for the removal of illegal structures and buildings obstructing the state’s road corridors, which have been encroached upon, posing security and environmental implications, has also been authorised by the governor.
Providing an insight into the law, Bala blamed the activities of some unpatriotic staff of the relevant agencies who selfishly granted approval for people to build along road corridors for the menace.
He announced that “the government will continue to build additional markets using cluster and professional villages while space will also be provided along the streets for such businesses to continue.
“As a seriously concerned government, no business owner will be left out, and no enterprise will be allowed to die by the new order.”
He urged residents to patriotically understand the rationale behind the development.
Governor Bala has also signed an executive order encompassing multiple aspects, including community and environmental protection, public safety and security, as well as a ban on deforestation in Bauchi State.
As he signed the executive order, Governor Bala Mohammed urged the residents of Bauchi State to join him in the fight against climate change.
