The keenly contested gubernatorial election in Edo State on Saturday, September 21, 2024 which saw the emergence of Sen. Monday Okpehbole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Governor-elect having been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) testifies to the people’s believe in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu according to Hon. Atasia-Oburu.
Speaking after the declaration of the APC’s candidate by INEC on Sunday in Benin, Hon. Sam Atasia-Oburu, the Convener and National Chairman of The Renewed Hope Agenda: The Way Forward, a political pressure group that believes in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noted that the hard earned victory for the APC is a proof of the people’s believe in the vision and mission of the Tinubu’s administration.
“For the APC which is an opposition to defeat the anointed candidate of an incumbent governor in a PDP State speaks so much of the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the people’s belief in its long term results.
“I can comfortably say that the people of Edo State have spoken in unity and their voices have been heard. They have said enough ; to lies, deceit and greed. We need to try something new. We are queueing behind President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, let’s see it to the end. We believe that something good awaits us in the end. That is clearly what the people said with their votes, the National Chairman claimed.
Hon. Atasia-Oburu maintained that the Edo governorship election victory is courtesy of the alluring leadership style of President Tinubu and the uniting force of APC National Chairman, H. E. Abdullahi Ganduje PhD.
“Edo is usually a very difficult ground for an opposition party to come and prevail , but for the APC to coast to victory in style demonstrates acceptable leadership.
“President Tinubu has a national image of a builder which cannot be contested by anyone as the evidence is all over Lagos and Western Nigeria. Our people are clearly aware of President Tinubu’s administrative prowess and vision for Nigeria like Lagos and everyone wants to have the Lagos experience and effect that is why the outcome of the election favoured the APC. There will be many more States aligning with the APC in the years ahead.
“When you have a national chairman of the party like H.E Ganduje who is a unifier and operates an open door policy, of course you will not expect a different result. Everybody wants to identify with progress to better their lives and this informs my believe that the party can only grow from strength to strength.
Hon. Oburu extended warm congratulations to Sen. Monday Okpehbole the Gov. Elect of Edo State, wishing him well in his government , advising that an all inclusive government will calm frayed nerves quicker .
“On behalf of the entire National membership of the Renewed Hope Agenda: The Way Forward, I am congratulating our Gov. elect for his resounding victory at the polls and wishing him best of luck in government as he takes the mantle of leadership in no distant time.
“I know Sen Monday Okpehbole came prepared and I am optimistic that he will deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.
“Surely, he owes this victory to the people of Edo State, to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to his party the APC being the vehicle with which he has attained this height so he has no option but to deliver a credible leadership that will protect the interests of the people and his party for the sake of future elections.
“He saw how difficult it was to wrestle power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but because the people said enough is enough, we don’t want a government that doesn’t care for the people but himself and the few in his cycle alone, that’s why he has emerged, so he should know that he has to produce evidence of good governance, visible results that the people can hold on to, that is the only way to secure the future of the party in Edo State.”
