Sen Godswill Akpabio CON was born on December 19th, 1962 in Old Cross Rivers State and present day Akwa Ibom state. He studied law and joined politics in 2002. He served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom before becoming a Minister, Senator and the Senate President in 2023.
During his time in office, he oversaw significant changes in the Akwa Ibom State including the creation of new jobs, the establishment of new trade agreements, and the passage of significant social policies.

In June 2022, Akpabio resigned from his position as minister for Niger Delta Affairs to contest in the Presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but stepped down on the night of the primaries for the eventual winner, now President Bola Tinubu.
Senator Akpabio has led the 10th Senate with Grace, Simplicity, Openness and humility. Of particular interest was the Liberalism he demonstrated in the allocation of committee heads among the Senators.
Sen Godswill Akpabio CON is non tribalised and love Nigerians. He married from Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He was visible at the funeral of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in 2012 and made Several visitations to the family before the Funeral.
This is what he said about Late Ojukwu in his vote of thanks, Akpabio urged Nigerians to study the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and use his ideals to advance the frontiers of peace, National unity and development. He was also visible at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu where his body was laid in State.
His Senate President position has indeed strengthened All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East. He was instrumental to the defection of notable Politicians to APC. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio presented the Senator representing Anambra South Sen Ifeanyi Ubah CON to the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress Dr Abdullahi Ganduje at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
