Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has initiated the distribution of rice palliative under its Food Security Program.
The distribution is aimed at alleviating the burden of food scarcity on the most vulnerable populations.
The distribution is being carried out by the state’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The launch of the rice distribution took place on June 11, 2024, and targeting a broad spectrum of registered groups to ensure inclusivity and reach. Beneficiaries include Labour Unions, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Civil Society Organizations, the Union of Pensioners, various Security Outfits, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Religious Associations, Market Unions, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), among other registered associations.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke at the commencement site, Hon. Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, the Special Adviser on Agriculture, OSSADEP, and OSSADEC, underscored the significance of the initiative in light of ongoing socio-economic challenges. “This initiative demonstrates our unwavering commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in our society,” Atidade stated. “By ensuring that essential food items are accessible, we aim to provide relief and promote stability within our communities.”
Atidade highlighted the meticulous planning involved in the distribution process to guarantee that all registered groups receive their fair share of the rice palliative. “Our goal is to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the process,” he explained. “We are working closely with representatives from each group to facilitate smooth and efficient distribution, ensuring that no one is left out.”
The distribution, which is being coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, calls for full cooperation from all involved parties to ensure an orderly and equitable process. The administration’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the effects of food insecurity, which has been exacerbated by various socio-economic challenges facing the state and the nation at large.
“We urge all beneficiaries to cooperate with the process, ensuring that the aid reaches those who need it most efficiently and transparently,” Atidade emphasized. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to addressing food insecurity and enhancing the welfare of its citizens through such proactive measures.
The launch event was marked by the presence of various representatives from the beneficiary groups, each expressing gratitude for the state government’s timely intervention. Mrs. Funmilayo Adeoye, a representative of the Union of Pensioners, lauded the initiative as a much-needed relief for many pensioners struggling with the rising cost of living. “This gesture by the state government is a lifeline for many of us who are grappling with financial difficulties,” she said. “We are grateful for this support.”
Similarly, representatives from the Market Unions and Religious Associations echoed these sentiments, appreciating the inclusive approach of the state government in addressing food security concerns. “The inclusion of diverse groups in this distribution process ensures that the palliative reaches a wide array of people, including those often overlooked,” noted Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaimon of the Market Union.
As the distribution continues across the state, the Ministry of Agriculture has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness. The administration plans to implement stringent measures to prevent any form of malpractice or favoritism in the distribution process.
“We have set up monitoring teams to oversee the distribution process and ensure that the palliatives are distributed fairly and reach the intended beneficiaries,” Atidade explained. “Our focus is on transparency and accountability, and we will not tolerate any actions that undermine the integrity of this initiative.”
The rice palliative distribution is part of a broader strategy by the Osun State Government to enhance food security and support the welfare of its citizens. The administration has pledged to continue implementing similar support programs in the future, with an emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity.
“Our administration remains steadfast in its mission to improve the lives of all residents of Osun State,” Atidade declared. “We will continue to introduce and sustain programs that address the needs of our people, ensuring that no one is left behind.”
The Osun State Government’s proactive approach to tackling food insecurity sets a commendable example of responsive governance. As the rice palliative distribution unfolds, it is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of households, fostering a more resilient and food-secure state.
