Nigerian footballer Kenneth Omeruo, captain of the Super Eagles, has achieved a remarkable milestone with his club Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.
During the 2023-2024 season, Omeruo played a crucial role in helping Kasimpasa accumulate a record-breaking 56 points.
The Apaches, had a notable campaign, securing 56 points from 38 matches, with a record of 16 wins, 8 draws, and 14 losses. This performance earned them a fifth-place finish, narrowly missing out on UEFA Conference League qualification.
Notably, this season’s point tally surpasses their previous best of 54 points in the 2021-2022 season, when they finished 11th.
Omeruo, who joined the club from Leganes last July and started all but one of his 24 matches, scoring once and rendering five assists, celebrated the feat on his Instagram page after they rounded off the campaign with a 2-0 win over Besiktas at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu in İstanbul.
“God is the greatest. We finished the season with a win and 5th place. Most points won in club history. I am proud to represent this great club, Kasimpas. It’s time to properly rest and enjoy with the family,” stated the 30-year-old, who was an unused substitute in the match against Besiktas.
Kasimpasa’s transformation into a competitive force in the Turkish topflight began in 2012, when they made a bold move by signing high-profile players like Ryan Babel from Ajax, experienced goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, Trézéguet, and strikers Eren Derdiyok from the Bundesliga and Mbaye Diagne.
The club has continued to invest in strengthening their squad. Additionally, Kasimpasa has successfully developed homegrown talent from their youth academy, producing Turkish national team players across various age groups, including Eren Elmalı and Yasin Özcan.
