The Nigerian Police Force has demoted Inspector Isong Osudueh, for extorting money from motorists along the Owerri-Onitsha express road.
The officer who is attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Owerri, Imo state, has been demoted following a widely circulated video.
The Imo state police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, announced the disciplinary action in a statement by the police spokesman, Henry Okoye, stating that the officer’s behaviour was “shameful and unprofessional.”
The supervisory officer has also been issued an official query for lack of supervision.
Aboki condemned the officer’s actions, stating that the command would not tolerate any form of extortion or misconduct by its personnel.
He warned that supervisory officers who fail to carry out their oversight duties will face severe sanctions.
The police boss urged residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies with timely and actionable information to ensure public safety.
“This incident highlights the police command’s commitment to maintaining professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel,” he said.
