Sodiq Ismail, the talented right-back, is beaming with pride after earning his first-ever call-up to the Nigerian national team.
A testament to his phenomenal performances with Remo Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Providing 12 assists in 30 matches, the defender has been in fine form in the NPFL this season.
His impressive performance has however not gone unnoticed and has been rewarded with an invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic next month.
The Nigeria Football Federation on Friday released the 23-man list for both games with Europa League winner and Atalanta hero, Ademola Lookman, headlining the list of invited players that will prosecute Finidi’s first real tests in charge of the team.
Ismail is one of the two new NPFL players in Finidi George’s squad alongside Ojo Olorunleke.
The right-back wrote how thrilled he was on his X account, reacting to his maiden call-up.
“I’m thrilled to receive my first national team Call-up!
“I am eager to give it my all and make a strong contribution. I am most grateful and thanks to the NFF and the coaching crew of the Super Eagles for the opportunity.”
