The Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) has commended the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Dauda Ali for fringe benefits to enhance staff welfare which was now yielding productivity and prompt service delivery.
The CYMS Director General, Chief Obinna Nwaka made this commendation when he led officials of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the FRSC Corps Marshal on Wednesday in Abuja.
Nwaka commended the FRSC operatives on their good conduct when discharging their duties on highways across the Federation.
He called for consideration of their requests for youth engagement through which CYMS presented four years ago.
He appealed for support and full participation at the forthcoming National Conference in Abuja adding that it was in collaboration with the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to him, Four years ago, we were here and we were received with love by the then DCM in charge of special duties.
“The purpose of our visit here today is based on our forthcoming national conference to enhance peace and national development.
“But you know the youth cannot just come to an establishment without presenting what will be more encouraging and also sustainable to engage young Nigerians.
“We will like to commend the Corps Marshal for his prompt service delivery. Since he became the Corps Marshal, we have noticed some changes in the commission.
“The rate of accidents have reduced drastically and the working synergy between the FRSC and the Ministry of works is highly commendable.
“We have been putting our ears on the ground to also know what is going on in this organisation and we can say salary have been promptly paid and also welfare of workers have been duely attended to, “he said.
According to him, the conduct of various FRSC officers and men on the road is highly commendable too. All of us can attest. My colleagues can all attest.
“The FRSC personnel are smart and also diligent in dealing with civilians especially those they intercept on the road.
“We believe all these cannot be possible if the leadership is not doing well. We commend the management team of this corps, “he said.
Nwaka said that the CYMS organisation had presented a scheme called “Volunteer Road Marshal to the FRSC to further engagement the youth in the country.
He said that the FRSC welcomed the development and gave commendations afterwards.
He also said the program would create opportunities for the youth to work as an internship under the establishment in partnership with the CYMS.
He added that the scheme was aimed at reducing high rate of restiveness, among the youth, creating opportunities for them to work as an internship under the establishment in partnership with our Organisation.
He said “We had the discussions and they said we should come up with the 200 lists per each states that the sector commander was to treat them in each state making everything possible.
According to him, we provided the lists and did follow up but after that, we don’t know what happened. We were not happy with that development.
“After some month, we can recall what happened with ENdSARS. Where some people were involved in destruction of facilities including the FRSC’s facilities.
“It was painful. Our attention was drawn and we did our best in engaging this people because we can’t be part of that activity because of our stand and engagement. We sensitised them.
“But if you look as a result of that activity, It happened because they do not have any meaningful thing to do that will keep them busy and any activity they see that will make them trend, they just involve themselves.
“If we continue to engage the youth, there are some responsibilities they will take upon themselves. So that is why we are representing the scheme again “Volunteers Road Marsal” for your kind consideration.
“This administration have a lot of interest in the Youth which is the administration of President Bola Tinubu. This is the first time we are having a youth as a minister, a female as a youth minister, two young people as ministers from the Ministry of Youth.
“We are having many young women as Ministers. Now Mr President have approved again 30 per cent affirmations slot for the youths.
“If the FRSC can emulate this kind gesture by the President and create this scheme, the youth will also be given opportunities.
“We also want a situation whereby we can work closely with the commission for annual conference and enlightenment programs for the youths, “he said.
Reacting, the FRSC Corps Marshal welcomed the delegation, commended the organisation for their resilience commitment towards youth development by promoting the policies programs and activities of the Federal government.
Ali-Biu was represented by Mrs Comfort Asom, Corps Commander, Special Duties and External Relations (SDER).
The FRSC boss expressed the readiness of the Corps to support their initiatives, adding that the Corps was a youth friendly organisation willing to ensure adequate youth engagement in line with its mandate.
He emphasised on the challenges of illicit drugs among some drivers on the road which mainly comprised of the youth.
“They drive without license and disobey traffic rules and laws.
“This is alarming and also requires the collaboration of organisations like CYMS for adequate sensitisation and public awareness,
and encouraged the organisation to also leverage on the radio station of the FRSC 107.1fm.
“We will also try to create opportunities to talk about some areas for the youth to know that they are the ones on the road on a daily basis.
“Therefore, if they obey the rules and regulations on the road there will be fewer crashes on the highways and road, “he said.
The FRSC boss assured the organisation of supports and encouragement in line with their requests.
In reaction, Hon Tayo Agbaje, CYMS Political Advisor while commending the FRSC, appealed to them to fine-tune and consider the request of the organization aiming at bridging the gap between the youth and the government.
