Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), prominent members in Ebonyi State, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among them are Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga, a former member of the PDP’s National Working Committee and former candidate for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency; Sylvanus Nguji Ngele, a former senator and executive member of the party; and other party officials.
The defection ceremony took place on Saturday, at Abakaliki Local Government Area Headquarters Nkaliki.
Speaking at the event, the two bigwigs from the PDP, Hon.Ogbaga and Senator Ngele noted that their major reason for dumping the PDP was that the party was unable to produce a governor from Izzi clan, which APC was able to achieve, in line with the existing charter of equity in Ebonyi State.
They stated that the present administration led by Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, anchored on people’s charter of needs, was the main reason to join forces with the ruling party to bring more dividends of democracy to the people of Ebonyi State.
APC National Treasurer Chief Matthew Uguru, APC State Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, APC Local Government Chairman Hon. Paulinus Atam, APC Local Government Chairman Hon. Stephen Nwogba, Former Chairman Abakaliki L.G.A. Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele, and Commissioner for Lands and Survey Hon. Matthew Nwobashi were among the important stakeholders and progressive family members who welcomed the decampees. They also commended the defectors on their audacious actions and urged them to proceed to their respective wards to pick up their membership cards.
Recall that last Monday, April 29, 2024, during the visit of the governor’s wife, Mrs. Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru, some highly placed members of the PDP in Abakaliki Local Government, including the member representing the people of Abakaliki North in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwoke, were welcomed into the APC family.
