The Government of Gombe State, on Friday, announced that the initial monthly sanitation scheduled for every last Saturday of the month would not hold today (Saturday) due to the local government elections.
Our correspondent reports that the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, would conduct the local government elections.
Stating this in Gombe, Mohammed Fawu, the Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, called on residents to keep their surroundings clean, emphasizing that they shouldn’t wait for the general allotted time to participate in sanitation.
He said, “This is to inform the general public that the instituted monthly environmental sanitation slated for every last Saturday of the month has been suspended for the month of April 2024.
“This is sequel to the scheduled April 27, 2024 local government elections in Gombe State. It is believed that the suspension of the exercise for this month will pave the way for a smooth and hitch-free polls come Saturday.”
Fawu disclosed that the suspension was in the interest of the residents to exercise their franchise to allow them elect LG officials, adding, “The general public is therefore advised to take advantage of the suspension to come out en-masse to cast their votes during the Saturday April 27th council polls.”
