An NGO, the Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse, and Drug Abuse Initiative (AKH-TRACADA), has called for urgent action to end illicit substance abuse, drug and human trafficking, organ harvesting, and kidnapping across the country.
The NGO Founder, Primate Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
The organisation had paid a courtesy visit to the obol lopon of Ugep and paramount ruler of yakurr local government of cross river state, His Royal Majesty, Obol Ofem Ubana.
Ezeanyaeche said that combating human trafficking required cooperation, teamwork, and a multifaceted strategy involving governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, and individuals.
He lamented the huge casualties in human and material resources associated with drug-related attacks, particularly among the youths, insisting that lawmakers must act before it gets late.
He expressed concern that human trafficking was becoming a common crime across African countries saying that Nigeria was vast with over 200 million people.
According to him, we need to work effectively both with government and non-government actors to be able to sensitise communities, youth leaders, traditional leaders, educational institutions, and the media.
“This is important so that we can spread the message that drug and Human trafficking does exist, and they should always be against it.
“This is the reason for the advocacy visit to the obol lopon of Ugep and paramount ruler of yakurr local government of cross river state, His Royal Majesty Obol Ofem Ubana.
“We visited there because we want every nooks and crannies of the country to be aware of the menace of Kidnapping, organ harvesting, human and drug trafficking, “ he said.
Ezeanyaeche said that the war of drug and human trafficking had become a general war which he said had brought all in seeking the best way to bringing it to zero tolerance.
He said “the ills have destroyed unaccountable lives, especially that of the youths.
“Nigeria as a country has suffered so many loss of lives and dignity due to the involvement of well-meaning Nigerians trafficking in humans and drugs.
“We all know that the catalyst to violence, Boko Haram, herdsmen and farmers clashes, bandits and so many communal wars are as a result of drugs, “he said .
The NGO boss urged the Federal Government to step up preventive and enforcement measures to check the menace of human trafficking.
He also urged the government to implement stringent measures against parents who colluded with human traffickers to exploit their children.
“ NGO is not selective in its fight against kidnapping, organ harvesting, human and drug trafficking. We all must join hands to end this barbaric act, “he said.
In his remarks, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr his royal Majesty Obol Ofem Ubana expressed gratitude to the NGO for deeming it fit to visit the community with such a crucial message.
Ubana commended the organisation’s efforts in addressing the dangers associated with humans and drug trafficking.
He reiterated the community’s commitment to continue the effort to curb the dangers of drugs and human trafficking.
“We do not tolerate ill vices and we will always deter such anomalies in the society, “he said.
