The Wife of Nigeria President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday distributed N200,000 cash each to 250 elderly persons in Delta State to cushion the effects of hardship and to celebrate Christmas Season joyfully.
Speaking at the 2nd edition of the Renewed Hope initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) with theme, total wellness, happy, healthy and prosperous lifestyle, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu said the programme was designed to support the welfare of the elderly citizens annually.
Nigeria First Lady who was represented by the wife of the Governor of Delta state, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori said a total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed across the nation.
According to her,” this programme is designed to support the welfare of our elderly citizens annually. Two hundred and fifty elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in all 36 states of federation, the federal capital territory and veterans from the Defense and Police officers wives association (DEPOWA) will be benefiting from this scheme. ”
“The governing board of the renewed hope initiative has decided to increase the grant from N100, 000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support to our elderly citizens during this festive season.”
“A total of N1.9billion will be disbursed across the nation. The RHI coordinators in the 36 states and DEPOWA have received N50 million each, out of which N200,000 will be distributed to each beneficiary. In addition to this, free medical check ups and other sundry items will be provided.
She congratulated all the states first ladies and RHI coordinator and partners for their efforts in making the day a reality.
Nigeria First Lady however, congratulated all the senior citizens who have been selected as beneficiaries and urged them to remember to priorities their health.
In addition to the N200,000, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also provided 50kg bag of rice each to the beneficiary.
First Lady of the state, Mrs, Tobore Oborevwori who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Catherine Onyeme said “old age also known as senior citizenship is worth celebrating, the World Health Organization (WHO) says old age begins from the age of sixty five. Here in this room we have those who are sixty five and above. For many, life has not been easy due to the economic situation in our country; you will all agree with me that life has been very challenging for many but we thank God for His mercy, He will not forsake us at this time we will be victorious.
” Today is not for long speeches but indeed a very happy day for me, although some of you have had better treatment than what we are giving you now but we want you to know that this is coming from a sincere heart, please enjoy the time we will share together.”
“I want to assure you that, there is a place for you in this present administration led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Your contributions to the growth of the state will not be overlooked but duly rewarded; we will continue to support and care for you.”
