As the festive season approaches, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has rolled out comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of Nigerians during the Yuletide period.
In a press statement issued on December 12, 2024, the IGP directed the deployment of officers to critical areas across the country to address traffic congestion, highway robberies, and other crimes that tend to spike during the season.
The directive includes a nationwide increase in police presence, particularly in urban centers, highways, and recreational spots. The heightened patrols aim to deter criminal activities and reassure citizens of their safety during the celebrations.
Reaffirming the effectiveness of these measures, the Nigeria Police Force reported recent breakthroughs in Lagos and Anambra States. On December 10, 2024, operatives from the Lagos State Command apprehended four suspected robbers: Akeem Alabi, Adewale Sogbesan, Emmanuel Izeagbe, and Francis Okoko. The suspects allegedly belong to a robbery syndicate targeting the Costain area. Meanwhile, in Anambra, police operatives arrested a suspected armed robber, Miracle Mwakaloi, on December 6. A search of Mwakaloi’s residence led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the Force remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining law and order during and beyond the festive season. The proactive strategies include enhanced patrols, community engagement, and targeted interventions in crime hotspots. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement, remain vigilant, and promptly report suspicious activities.
The Police Force has emphasized that while ensuring public safety, officers will uphold professionalism and adhere to ethical standards in their operations.
