Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Nigeria’s former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, has resumed her law practice following her dismissal by President Bola Tinubu during his first cabinet reshuffle.
In a heartfelt video shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Kennedy-Ohanenye revealed that she was back in court to represent a 5-year-old girl allegedly raped by her class teacher.
The former minister expressed her unwavering commitment to justice, particularly in defending vulnerable Nigerians, including children. She wrote, “I remain committed to fighting for a better society. My passion for justice remains unwavering, and I will not tolerate any form of abuse. Today, I represented a heart-wrenching case involving a 5-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her teacher. This strengthens my resolve to combat such heinous crimes.”
She also issued a stern warning to perpetrators of such acts, vowing to relentlessly pursue justice in her professional capacity.

Kennedy-Ohanenye was removed from her ministerial role in October 2024 alongside four other ministers, including Lola Ade-John and Jamila Bio Ibrahim. Her appointment in August 2023 was widely regarded as a reward for her loyalty to President Tinubu, having stepped down for him during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries.
