AS Roma have officially announced the departure of head coach Ivan Juric after a brief but challenging 12-game spell at the helm. Juric, who joined Roma in September following a solid stint with Torino, was brought in to replace club legend Daniele De Rossi amid the team’s poor start to the season.
Initially, Juric seemed to be the spark Roma needed, securing two wins in his first three matches. However, his early momentum quickly stalled, with the club managing only two additional victories in their next nine outings across Serie A and the Europa League. The tipping point came on Sunday when Roma suffered a disappointing 3-2 home defeat against Bologna, marking their third consecutive match without a win. This followed a 1-1 Europa League draw with Union SG and a frustrating 3-2 loss to Hellas Verona in Serie A.
Juric leaves Roma in a precarious 12th place in the league, just four points above the relegation zone and a significant nine points adrift of sixth-place Lazio. In European competition, the outlook is equally bleak, with Roma sitting 20th in the Europa League standings, having secured only one win in four matches. With four points separating them from a knockout-round qualifying spot, their European campaign appears in jeopardy.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Roma moved swiftly to announce Juric’s dismissal. In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude for his efforts in a challenging environment: “We would like to thank Ivan Juric for his hard work these past weeks. He handled a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism, and for that we are grateful. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. The search for a new head coach has already begun.”
Juric’s departure is the latest in a turbulent year for Roma, marking the club’s fourth managerial change in 2024. José Mourinho initially led the team before being let go in January. Now, as Roma continues its search for stability, the club will be seeking a new leader to steer them back on course both domestically and in Europe.
