The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially reinstated Honorable Olusola Oluokun as Chairman of Oyo East Local Government after suspending him over an incident on social media.
The decision was reached during a plenary session on Thursday, November 7.
Oluokun’s suspension stemmed from a viral video showing him in what was described as an inappropriate manner, with remarks that drew public criticism. However, following an investigation led by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, chaired by Honorable Akintunde Olajide, Oluokun was cleared of the charges. The committee’s report, presented to the House, stated that the video was not intentionally shared on social media by Oluokun, who expressed genuine remorse for the incident.
Lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, commended the committee for its swift handling of the investigation, calling it one of the Assembly’s most efficient inquiries. In a unanimous vote, the Assembly agreed to reinstate Oluokun, emphasizing that the suspension served as a reminder for public officials to conduct themselves responsibly in both public and private life.
With Oluokun’s reinstatement, Speaker Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin directed that the vice chairman, who had stepped in during the suspension, return to his role.
