The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has condemned the alleged assault on a cab driver by Alex Ikwechegh, the member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
In a statement released on Monday, October 28, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, expressed APGA’s disapproval of the incident captured in a viral video. According to Opara, the video appears to show the lawmaker assaulting the driver during a confrontation.
“Our party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, is aware of a viral video showing an alleged assault by Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency,” the statement read. “As a political organization committed to upholding human rights, we unequivocally condemn the actions of the said member.”
Opara emphasized that APGA was founded on principles of respect for human dignity regardless of social class, creed, or ethnicity. He stated that the conduct allegedly displayed by Ikwechegh is contrary to the party’s core values and would not be tolerated.
“In line with APGA’s constitution, the party’s leadership will establish a disciplinary committee to thoroughly investigate the incident,” he said. “If the lawmaker is found guilty, appropriate sanctions will be applied as outlined in the party’s constitution.”
The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining the ideals set by its founding fathers. “In APGA, we are committed to being our brother’s and sister’s keeper, and we cannot allow any verified misconduct that goes against our core values,” Opara concluded.
