The Nigeria Police Force has expressed its disapproval over the unauthorized use of its official uniform by popular online personality, Martins Otse, known as “VeryDarkMan” (VDM), in a recent viral video.
In the video, VDM was seen dressed in full police attire, introducing himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” and Nigeria’s number one online police officer.
He stated that his mission is to sanitize the social media space by targeting alleged oppressors, particularly fraudulent online vendors.
VDM went on to emphasize that, unlike the conventional police, he would bypass formal procedures and expose wrongdoers with available evidence.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Force distanced itself from this portrayal, stressing that it had initiated an investigation to uncover how VDM acquired the uniform and under whose authority he wore it.
“The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorized portrayal and has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted,” the statement read.
The Police also reminded the public that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements is a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law. Violators, it warned, face strict legal consequences.
While the Force acknowledged the creativity of Nigerian youths in content creation, it cautioned against the misuse of police uniforms or symbols, noting that such actions undermine the integrity and values of the institution and will not be condoned.
