The direct primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as the best for democracy in Nigeria.
Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji and a member House of Representatives, representing Ondo East and West Federal constituency, Abiola Makinde stated this Saturday while casting their votes during the party’s primary in Ondo town.
Oladiji noted that the direct primary election is the best because it empowers people to decide on behalf of their local governments.
The Speaker who expressed joy over the primary election, said it went well as the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa won in ward 3, Bolorunduro.
He said some members voted for other aspirants but Aiyedatiwa came out victorious in the exercises.
On his part, Makinde said the direct primary is the first of its kind, adding that over a long period, the party has been engaging in indirect primaries.
According to him, the direct primary involves the people in the party, saying this is democracy at its best and it was obvious that Governor Aiyedatiwa won massively.
He, however, advised party member and other aspirants that could not clinch the party’s ticket to come together in order to face the opposition parties in the forthcoming election.
Makinde said the primary election went well in Ondo West and voters came out in their numbers to vote.
The primary election in Ondo City witnessed a large turnout of voters as most polling units monitored were filled with voters anxious to cast their ballots for their preferred candidates .
At Oke-Segun, Ward 10, Lodasa/ Iparuku/ Lijoka ward 7,Ondo Local Government Area among others, voters in their numbers waited patiently for the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
