Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has accepted the invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
This comes after careful consideration and consultation with his family, legal counsel, and political friends, as stated by Ohiare Michael, Director of Yahaya Bello Media Office.
“Bello’s decision to honor the EFCC’s invitation is driven by his commitment to clarifying his name, as he claims to have nothing to hide and nothing to fear”- Ohiare stated.
Thediscovererng.com reports that the former governor has been in hiding since the EFCC attempted to apprehend him at his Abuja residence several months ago.
The EFCC is prosecuting Bello for alleged misappropriation of over N80 billion during his eight-year tenure as governor. The Court of Appeal recently directed Bello to present himself for arraignment without delay, overturning the previous judgment delivered by the Kogi State High Court
Prominent Nigerians accompanied Bello to the EFCC headquarters, demonstrating his willingness to cooperate. Bello’s media office expressed hope that the Commission would respect his fundamental rights as a citizen and act with professionalism.
“We will eventually reveal the specifics of his interaction with the Anti-Graft Agency personnel,” Ohiare disclosed.
