The Committee of Youths on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) is seeking partnership with the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental affairs to boost National development and growth.
The Director-General of CYMS, Chief Obinna Nwaka said this when he led his team on a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Maryam Keshinro on Tuesday in Abuja.
Nwaka congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, urging collaboration on two national programmes and recommending seven individuals for the Nigerian National Merit Awards.
He, however, praised the Permanent Secretary’s dedication to service and impressive antecedents as a civil servant while highlighting the organisation’s existing relationship with the ministry, citing aligned objectives and mandates.
According to him, CYMS is not new to the ministry; our existing relationship is based on our mandate and activities which is in line with the objectives of the Ministry.
“In view of the above, hence areas of our request; Implementation of the special ministerial sensitisation and interactive session programme endorsed by the Ministry;
“This concept designed by our organisation was endorsed by the Ministry few years ago, with the sole purpose of showcasing the giants stride of the Federal Government to the people at the grassroots level for more understanding.
“There are alot of projects ongoing by the Federal Government that the people at the grassroots level doesn’t know about. No proper sensitisation and that has informed the protests held recently,”he said.
Nwaka said that there was also need for collaboration on public enlightenment for the effectiveness of Local Government Administration in Nigeria
According to him, this is to take advantage of the newly signed financial Local Government autonomy by President Tinubu by enlightening the public.
“It will also help to reawakening their consciousness to hold their Local Government leadership or head of administration accountable for poor governance.
“We need to let the people know that there is more responsibility by the local govt. and we are ready to work with the ministry to actualise its mandate.
“This will also create a platform where the State government and Local government Chairman and others can also address their subject on the subject matter and engage their people on various issues affecting service delivery,”he said.
Nwaka assured the Ministry of the organisation’s continued partnership adding that CYMS had always been part of the Ministry to champion and promote peaceful coexistence.
The CYMS Director-General, however, recommended seven exceptional individuals for the prestigious Nigerian National Merit Award, recognising their outstanding contributions to community development, youth empowerment, and national growth.
Nwaka said that these individuals have demonstrated unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes, anti-corruption values, peace promotion, and exemplary service delivery.
He named the notable nominees to include Hajia Walidda Siddique, Director Corps Mobilisation Department at NYSC, Ms Ngozi Kekwaru, a staff member of Eko Hotel who returned a lost $70,000 to its owner.
“Also included is Mrs Dorcas Arekhame former Director, Federal Ministry Of Agriculture And Food Security, who was celebrated as the Best Servicom Officer in the entire MDAs among others,’he said.
Responding, Dr Maryam Keshinro commended the organisation for its full participation in the growth of the nation.
Keshinro, who was represented by Dr Cyprian Kpakol, Director, Policy Implementation and Monitoring Of Government Decisions (PIMGD) assured that the request would be look into.
She said that one of the mandate of the Ministry was to ensure the Nation’s President succeeded and the Ministry would support to achieve the set goals.
“If we succeed, Nigeria succeed. Youths are not just leaders of tomorrow but a work force for a country. Whatever you build today is what gives strength for tomorrow.
“We can assure you that we will not relent in extending invitation to you when necessary. What people don’t know is that if the Local Govt. are doing well, you have less work load coming to National.
“If we join our hands together and drive the renewed hope agenda , we will achieve alot and we are doing all we can to perfect all. We will continue to liaise with you and we will also engage you to go to the rural areas and sensitise them, “he said.
