A former presidential aide and journalist Reuben Abati, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s economy.
Abati believes that the current economic situation is a “gross embarrassment” and would likely elicit laughter from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
On ARISE TV’s The Morning Show, Abati stated, “We now find ourselves in a situation whereby former President Muhammadu Buhari will be laughing.”
He imagined Buhari saying, “Okay, I think this Yoruba people say they know the economy, The economy is now in their hands, they have mismanaged it.”
Abati argued that the Southwest, which claims to be better at managing the economy, has not shown any evidence of this.
He cited examples of increased school fees and the rising cost of everyday items like Suya, which now costs N1850 per stick.
“We can’t even eat Suya again, all in a space of one or two weeks,” he lamented.
Abati also expressed concern about the state of Lagos, which was once Nigeria’s business hub but has now become a “ghost town.”
‘’How many vehicles do you see on the road now? People are now rationalizing their lifestyle. Lifestyle is affected, families are affected, husbands beginning to go to the market to make sure madams do not top up chop money.” he decried.
Tinubu’s harsh economic policies have faced heavy criticism, and Abati’s comments are just the latest in a series of condemnations from various quarters.
