A devastating attack on the Oba Divisional Police Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State has left a trail of destruction and loss of life.
Gunmen suspected to be secessionists bombed the police station early Tuesday morning, killing a corporal and injuring several officers and civilians.
The attack, which began with sporadic shooting, also saw the gunmen throw petrol bombs at the security facility, causing fires that engulfed several offices and the nearby Oba Civic Centre. The timely intervention of a joint security force, comprising the army, navy, civil defence, and other agencies, helped to put out the fire and prevent further damage.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on the nation’s soul. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
Thediscovererng.com reports that this attack on Oba Police Headquarters is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, raising concerns about the growing threat of secessionist groups and the need for increased security measures to protect lives and property.
