The Federal Ministry of Education has condemned a fraudulent letter attributed to the ministry, advocating for a national debate on legalizing same-sex marriage in Nigeria.
The letter, allegedly from Creative Africa Initiative, has prompted the ministry to request an immediate investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a letter dated August 9, 2024, addressed to DSS Director-General Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary expressed concern over the letter’s potential consequences.
The ministry emphasized that same-sex marriage contradicts Nigeria’s cultural, religious values, and existing laws.
The ministry warned that introducing this controversial topic could disrupt public peace and social cohesion, undermining Nigerian laws and destabilizing societal norms. This could lead to unnecessary tension and division among citizens.
Dr. Sani-Gwarzo requested a thorough DSS investigation into the letter’s origins and intentions, stressing the need to prevent discord and ensure national peace and stability. The ministry urged the DSS to take necessary measures to safeguard the nation’s harmony.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to upholding Nigerian values and laws, distancing itself from the fraudulent letter and its controversial agenda.
