If his words are anything to go by, Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Organization, has debunked the rumour that he has dumped the party.
Okonkwo, while speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, said he’s till a labour party member, and that he’s going to stay and consolidate labour party with other stakeholders who are progressive minded, and with the NLC national transitional committee, which was set up in order to organize all inclusive national convention ” of the party.
He hinted that the party was moving on though it didn’t have a current national transitional working committee.
“The labour party is moving on to organize all inclusive national convention which will be led by stake holders and the NEC officials who will organize it”.
Okonkwo also expressed that he found the allegation leveled against him by some members of LP that he’s a mole in the party.
According to him: “The news that I have left the labour party is a fake news. When I read the story by Obiora, who’s purporting to be the publicity secretary of the party, that I’m a mole in the party, I found it so ridiculous”.
Okonkwo, who described Obiora as a dullard during the interview, also said he didn’t have any feeling of resentment with the presidential candidate of the labour party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi.
He said: “I don’t have grievances with my brother, Obi. I love him, I cherish him. And I have never made any personal request from him”.
He explained that his approach to issues is different from that of Obi. And that made him withdrew from speaking on Obi’s behalf.
“I am temperamental but Obi appears sweet to people. They are licking up Peter Obi because he always wants to appear too sweet to people but I don’t have that kind of temperament”.
Okonkwo said he would have loved the Obidients (staunch supporters of Peter Obi are referred as the Obidients), are integrated into the labour party, but Obi has contrary believe.
“He (Obi) said the Obidients are not members of the labour party. He said the Obidients Movement is not a political party.
“After the election, I advised we should integrate everybody to solidify the labour party so we will be a formidable force. But he said he didn’t not promise Nigerians to build a strong party but promised them to solve Nigeria problems “.
Okonkwo opined that winning an election in Nigeria would not be all needed to secure one’s mandate.
“When you win an election, you still need a powerful political party that’s strong to sustain its winning. Because in Nigeria, these people will rig in elections, so, I believe one can’t solve the Nigeria problems without having a strong political party”, he added.
