The Nigerian Correctional Service has warned the public to stay away from Custodial Centres nationwide, designating them as “red zones” in anticipation of a planned national protest on August 1, 2024.
In a press release issued on July 30, 2024, the Service emphasized that Custodial and Non-custodial Centres are critical national assets essential to public safety and national security. Any attempt to tamper with or attack these facilities could lead to a breakdown in law and order, exacerbating overall security concerns.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, has activated the Ministry of Interior Joint Taskforce (MOIJTF) to provide additional security measures around custodial facilities nationwide. The Service urges the public to cooperate in protecting correctional facilities and report any suspicious activities to the designated email, website, or phone numbers.
The Nigerian Correctional Service is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of its facilities, personnel, and inmates during the planned protest.
