Three out of four House of Assembly members elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on July 27, 2024.
During the APC’s local government election campaign launch in Koko Besse, Speaker Usman Yankwai revealed that three lawmakers from the opposition party have defected to the APC. Citing Governor Nasir Idris’s exceptional leadership and impressive performance.
The Speaker also explained that this was the reason behind their decision to join the ruling party.
According to Speaker Usman Yankwai, the three PDP House of Assembly members who defected to the APC represent the following constituencies; Argungu, Bunza and Yauri.
“It’s a testimony of the decision of the Assembly members to support Governor Idris mission and vision for the development and progress of Kebbi and its people,” the speaker said.
While receiving the defectors and their supporters at the campaign rally, the state Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abubakar Zuru, assured them of the party’s support and fairness. He said Governor Idris decision to develop the state within a year was aimed at transforming the lives people of Kebbi State.
Senator Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and former governor of Kebbi State, expressed his delight and admiration for the significant accomplishments of Governor Nasir Idris’s administration within its first year in office.
He praised the governor’s outstanding performance and the progress made so far, highlighting the positive impact on the state’s development.
Abubakar Malami, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, expressed his enthusiasm and approval for the remarkable progress and development achieved in Kebbi State under the APC-led government.
