The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has called for stakeholders’ support in reducing road accidents in the country.
Mohammed who made the call while decorating the five new deputy corps marshals on Wednesday in Abuja, stressed the need for collective efforts to achieve a significant reduction in road accidents.
He emphasised that the FRSC had put in place measures to reduce road accidents, but the support of stakeholders would be crucial to achieving the desired goal.
He said that the corps would come up with more and new initiatives to reduce the carnage and its attendant fatalities across the country.
He also noted that road safety should be a shared responsibility and all hands must be on deck to check the menace.
“This effort requires the collaboration of all stakeholders. We need your support to reduce road accidents, save lives and property.
“We have intensified patrols operations, improved enforcement and enhanced public enlightenment but we need your support to reduce road accidents,” he said.
Mohammed, however, enjoined the new officers to redouble efforts as the public would expect much from them.
The corps marshal admonished them to provide purposeful leadership that would bring about effective traffic management in the country.
He assured them that the corps would continue to work with international bodies to reduce road accidents.
Former FRSC Corps Marshal Osita Chidoka also urged the new management of corps to invest in manpower development and avoid any ethnic tendencies.
Chidoka, who was also a former Minister of Aviation, stressed the need to always reward hardworking officers for increased output.
Speaking on behalf of the decorated officers, Deputy Corps Marshal Kingsley Agomoh, pledged not to disappoint the country.
Agomoh said that the appointment would bring out the best in road management across the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that former Gov. Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State, the former Minister of Information, Mr Frank Nweke Jnr., family and friends of the decorated senior officers, attended the event.
