A foundation member of All Progressives Congress (APC) Osita Okechukwu, in an open letter of commendation to Livestock Reform Committee has advocated that modern ranching of cattle, goat, sheep and pigs is the answer to addressing the existential threat to national unity
In a statement released to newsmen Sunday in Abuja, Okechukwu said to address frequent clashes between farmers and herders in different parts of the country modern ranch model should be adopted.
He opined that it is his considered view that farmers/herders clashes could be fingered on why our food basket communities are dysfunctional and the main reason why the Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP), which gulped billions of Naira failed woefully.
Okechukwu therefore advised the Livestock Reform Committee to consider that ranching has fundamentally changed over couple of years, with features of complex top technologies and humane facilities like cattle cages, veterinary clinics, schools, residential houses; show casing modern ranch model as far better than the archaic grazing routes allegedly on the table.
Okechukwu albeit urged President Bola Tinubu and Professor Attahiru Jega, co-chairmen of the Livestock Reform Implementation Committee in the interest of national unity, harmonious existence and prosperity to adopt modern ranch model as the solution provider to avoid roaming animals especially cattle that ravage crop farms.
He commended Mr President for exploring lasting solution to Farmers/Herders existential pandemic which polarised our dear countrymen, bred unprecedented insecurity, uncountable loss of lives, abject poverty and hunger.
Okechukwu accordingly advised President Tinubu to finance the Renewed Hope Livestock mega project not only from national emergency fund, but to go ahead and borrow, if need be to fund modern ranch in voluntary states; as the loan if prudently managed will repay itself.
