Governor Seyi Makinde has achieved a major breakthrough for Oyo State, obtaining President Bola Tinubu’s approval to elevate Ibadan Airport to international status.
This landmark development is expected to spur economic growth, boost regional connectivity.
During a courtesy visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Wednesday, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed the information.
The Governor revealed that he will be heading to Abuja today to finalize the necessary documentation, and assured that the project will commence immediately after all the documents are in place.
He said further that the runway will be expanded and a new terminal will be built when the project commences, adding that a team had been constituted to implement the project which he said would boost the economy of the state.
Governor Makinde solicited the input of personnel of the Air Force in the state in ensuring that the project meets the required operating standards.
Recall that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde during state of the state address recently, promised that pilgrims from the state for the 2024 Hajj will airlifted from the Ibadan Airport.
Earlier, Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, explained that his visit to Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, was part of a comprehensive operational tour of various Air Force formations located throughout the country.
