Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has come to the aid of Zainab Jummai Ado Bayero, a daughter of the late Emir of Kano, and her family, who were on the verge of being evicted from their apartment in Lagos.
According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, the governor arrived in Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to intervene in the situation.
He met with the General Manager of the apartment complex, Mr. Sunel Kumar, where the Ado Bayero family has resided since early this year.
Mr. Kumar had threatened to evict the family that very day.
Bature stated that the governor stepped in after Princess Zainab Bayero made a public plea in the newspapers, alleging that her mother and brother had been abandoned by the royal family after the late Emir Ado Bayero’s death.
Zainab, her brother and her mother have reportedly been facing difficult times since the demise of the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The statement said the princess, her mother and brother thanked the representative of Kano governor for the gesture.
“You came at the right time, we were about to be forcefully evicted from the facility for our inability to pay the rent, they said today is final, we must move out by 3:00 pm and you came just fifteen minutes to the time, they have already mobilised youths to remove us out of the apartment, Alhamdulillah for your arrival,” Zainab reportedly stated.
On his own part, Bature stated that the governor’s humanitarian intervention was “due to the fact that many citizens of Kano feel that the matter did not portray the royal family and Kano in good light”.
“They are not only members of the Royal Family, they are our Muslim sisters and brother, currently in need,” Bature said.
