A protest was staged in Ode Irele on Monday by hundreds of students from various higher institutions of learning, demanding justice and answers over the disappearance of Gideon Akindoye.
Gideon Akindoye went missing on June 11, 2024, after visiting his father’s farm, located between Igbobini and Ode Irele communities and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Akindoye went missing after going to the farm to harvest cassava, and his failure to return home has sparked suspicions that he may have been kidnapped.
During the protest, the students, under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students, called on the state governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the security agencies in the state to intervene and find the missing student.
Singing different solidarity songs, the students carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Bring back Gideon dead or alive’, ‘Mr Governor, we need UR Help,’ ‘Akindoyo Gideon missing since 11th June 2024, Where is him?’, ‘Gideon where are you,’ among others.
During the protest, Comrade Henry Olukunomo, the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), demanded that the alleged abductors of Gideon Akindoye release him immediately, whether alive or dead, expressing his conviction that the student was indeed kidnapped.
Comrade Olukunomo, the Senate President of NANS, revealed that the students’ union has sufficient documentation to confirm Gideon Akindoye’s studentship at Al-Hikmah University, refuting a previous media report.
