A building along University Road, Tanke, Ilọrin, Kwara state was gutted by fire, destroying six bedrooms in the process.
It was learnt that the inferno, derived from an inverter system power supply used by one of the occupants.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
He said, An unusual sound emanating from the inverter system prompted concern, leading to continuous sparks and ultimately igniting the fire.
He further said, “There was no power supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
“Notably, the absence of fire-retardant materials in the building’s construction, including aluminium roofing sheets, plastic ceilings, and planks, facilitated the rapid spread of the flames,” he noted.
The director of the service, Prince Falade John, showed sympathy for the victims and extended prayers for the reinstitute of their lost belongings, Adekunle said.
He stressed the significance of continue safety alertness at all times, urging vigilance and heedfulness to avert such incidents in the future.
