The state government is working with the Federal Government to establish a military camp in Sabon Birmi Local Government Area as part of its efforts to address insecurity in the state.
Idris Gobir, the Deputy Governor, made this known while speaking to a gathering in Sabon Birni town, specifically at Sabon Fegi, on Tuesday.
Gobir said when approved, “a military camp will be established in one of the three towns experiencing frequent bandit attacks. The towns are Burkusuma, Dama and Magira.”
He said consultation to that effect had reached an advanced stage, adding that the development would check the frequent attacks being carried out by bandits in the area.
The deputy governor, therefore, implored the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District to shun rumour mongers over security challenges in the area.
While reiterating the commitment of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration to the fight against banditry, he called on the people to remain patriotic and united as well as security conscious.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press, Deputy Governor’s Office, Garba Mohammed, Idris used the opportunity to announce that the contractor handling the construction of Tsululu Road in Sabon Birni would return to the site for the completion of the project.
He praised the people for their continued support of the government.
Alhaji Garba Kaba, Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, and Alhaji Isah Mohammed, his counterpart in Isa Local Government Area, both reported significant successes in the efforts to combat banditry in the region.
According to the local government officials, there has been a significant decrease in bandit attacks, but they emphasized the need for continued efforts by the government to consolidate the gains.
