The Federal Government has announced that this year’s Democracy Day celebrations will commence with a symposium scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The symposium is scheduled to take place at the State House Conference Centre, located in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
Later that day, at 6:00 p.m., a youth conference will convene at the Ladi Kwali Hall, located within the Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja.
This is according to a statement on Sunday by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The statement read, “The programmes lined up for the celebration include a symposium on Tuesday, June 11, at 9:00 am at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“Later that day, a youth conference will be held at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja, at 6 pm.
“A grand parade will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at 8 am at Eagle Square, Abuja,” followed by “a dinner at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 6 pm”.
According to report, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, originally celebrated on May 29, was shifted to June 12 in 2018 during the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari.
This change was made to pay tribute to the late Moshood Abiola, the widely recognized winner of the 1993 presidential election, a landmark event in Nigeria’s political history that was infamously annulled.
