Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State, has reportedly established a new political organization called ‘Omoluabi Progressives’,.
According to The Will, Rauf Aregbesola launched the membership registration drive for his new political group, ‘Omoluabi Progressives’, at his ward last weekend.
Following his reported ousting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State by the party’s leadership, former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has established a new political group, ‘Omoluabi Progressives’, in what appears to be a move to regroup and potentially challenge his former party.
The APC in Osun State said that Aregbesola is not a member of the party.
The party in a communique signed by State Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, while officially informing party leadership about the upcoming electronic party membership registration as directed by the national secretariat, warned members against registering with Aregbesola’s group as it is not recognised as part of APC in Osun state.
The communique added that as far as the APC was concerned in Osun State, Aregbesola is no longer a member of the party.
It accused Aregbesola of causing distractions within the party’s affairs in the state and that it had notified the national secretariat, at least thrice, to take appropriate actions since it was unable to tame him at the state level.
Notable figures from the Southwest All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to attend the celebration marking Rauf Aregbesola’s 67th birthday, their absence signifying a notable snub.
Speculation suggests that the ‘Omoluabi Progressives’ may be a precursor to a new political framework that Aregbesola intends to utilize to influence the selection of the upcoming governor of Osun State.
Despite the rumors and speculation surrounding his involvement with the ‘Omoluabi Progressives’, Rauf Aregbesola has thus far refused to publicly confirm or deny his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
