Three children have been rescued as fire engulfed a story building on Obi Onuorah Crescent, behind Okowe Plaza in Asaba.
The roof and the two apartments were ablazed down as property worth millions of naira was damaged.
However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report
A widow and mother of four children, Mrs Gloria Sado, who wept over the incident, appealed to Nigerians to come to her aid.
She said, “I came back on Thursday night around 9 pm when I saw the fire burning in our house. My three children were in the house; one went with me to the market.
“Thank God, my children were rescued. I didn’t know the cause of the fire. All the three fire service trucks that came did not have water to quench the fire, our property was burnt to ashes.”
Also, her neighbour, Mr Simon Amalimen, who is a father of two said he noticed that the fire started from one of the apartments.
“I was in my apartment when I heard the shouts. I came out and noticed that the fire was coming out from my neighbour’s apartment. When we learnt that the three children were inside the apartment sleeping, we immediately moved in to rescue the children.
Amalimen added, “The fire also affected my apartment. Before we could rescue them, the fire had engulfed my apartment, but my two children and my wife were rescued. I came out with only the pair of shorts I had on me,”.
He added before the third fire service could arrive, the two residents apartments had been extensively burnt as the servicemen earlier complained of a shortage of water.
